Three Girls Travel minus one makes for a sad time for the other two. We missed Lee very much for this outing which was to be a triple date with our husbands to go to the Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor concert. We had the tickets so Debbie, Claire, Cathy and Chuck represented Three Girls Travel. Hoping Lee gets better really soon.
The evening began with Cathy, Chuck and Claire picking Deb up at work. Chuck drove us to Longhorn Steak House. The meal was wonderful but we were still missing our third girl!

After dinner we headed over the Verizon Arena for the concert. We found our seats and waited on the show. We put Chuck in charge of a group picture.

Bonnie Raitt was first and James Taylor actually came out to introduced her. His introduction was of an “entertainer extraordinaire” and “funky as a dead dog on the pavement in 105 degree weather.” She was indeed the entertainer! She was sent to get the crowd ready for James but she is a concert in and of herself. Fabulous!!

Then for the main attraction, James Taylor, the man that sang so many of our teenage and young adult life favorites on the radio and for whom many, many numbers of girls in the 70’s had crushes (we may have been some of those) was live, in front of us, singing those very songs as well as some new ones. His level of entertainment does not come around very often. His banter with the people in his band and the people in the audience is astounding.
He sang song after song and told stories about some which gave us a new love for them. We found that the song “Sweet Baby James” was written for his baby nephew who was named after him. He wrote the song on his way to visit him for the very first time. It was a very touching story and makes the song even more special.
As the night came to an end, after James singing for over two hours including four encores, we felt satisfied that we had heard all of our favorites. We missed Lee terribly and wished she could have been with us. James Taylor is a class act. If he ever comes close again, you better believe that Three Girls Travel will be sitting in the audience singing along.
You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come running, to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I’ll be there…..You’ve got a friend.

Great concert, you could hear the music, understand the words, and not every other word was profane. Many “Old Hippies” showed up for the event.
